In New Jersey, Behavioral Assistance Services (BA) are community-based behavioral health supports for children, youth, or young adults who have significant behavioral challenges (often related to developmental disabilities, mental or emotional conditions). These services are usually part of the state’s children’s behavioral health system.

An Intensive In-Community (IIC) Counselor in New Jersey is a mental health professional who provides therapy and behavioral support to children and families where support is needed. These services are part of the state’s Children’s System of Care (CSOC) program.

Parent Coaching Services in New Jersey are programs designed to help families raising children with emotional, behavioral, developmental, or substance-use challenges. These services are part of the New Jersey Children’s System of Care (CSOC) and are accessed through PerformCare.

An intake session in counseling is the first meeting between a counselor and a client where basic information about the client and their concerns is gathered. The session usually lasts 30 minutes. The counselor asks questions about the client’s background, current problems, and goals for counseling. This session also includes explaining confidentiality, counseling procedures, and beginning to plan how the counselor can help the client.
